A Song from the Hill Country

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord...

2013 - 2014

In preparation for the Annual Pilgrimage in 2014, we are hosting a series of events in various places to explore the Magnificat Song of Mary! They will culminate in the pilgrimage to the shrine in May 2014!

Mary’s song, which filled her head and heart as she journeyed to visit her cousin Elizabeth, was shared with joy in the hill country of Judea as these two women embrace, and rejoice in the greatness of God.

Mary’s words have been on the lips and in the hearts of Christians ever since. They echo through every generation. What do—or could—they mean for us?

Join us throughout 2013 and 2014 as we celebrate and sing, worship and wonder and explore what Mary’s Song may mean for us today!

Beginning at St Peter's Church, Fairwater, on Wednesday September 18th, Rev’d Mark Rowland, a Methodist Minister from Cardiff, will explore the phrase, ‘All generations will call me blessed’ and ask the question ‘Who is Mary for?’

Each event will be rooted in worship and followed by a time with light refreshments and time to meet and talk with others. The Penrhys shop will be there - along with lots of resources and information!

‘Soon afterwards Mary set out and hurried away to a town in the hill country of Judah.

She went into Zechariah’s house and greeted Elizabeth.

And when Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby stirred in her womb.
(Luke 1:39ff)

Music is important to us! All of us will probably have a favourite song or a meaningful medley of music, something which signifies a special moment in our life, brings back memories, reminds us of a special person or simply makes us feel good! Maybe there is a piece of music that gives voice to how we feel at times.

It's not surprising then that Mary's Magnificat from the hill country of Judah has become a song that is special to Christians, a canticle of praise that is sung or recited, day by day. Why is this song a favoured one? And what does it – or can it – mean for us today?

It's these questions that we will be exploring during 2013 and 2014, as Mary's Song from the Hill Country accompanies us on a journey around South Wales. At various places throughout the next twelve months we will celebrate, explore and sing out with joy the Magnificat Song of Mary.

As we travel from place to place, the journey that Mary made to Elizabeth in the hill country will colour our faith and open our hearts and minds to all that the words of that favoured song may mean for us today, culminating in the Pilgrimage Day in May 2014.

Each event is rooted in worship and a guest speaker will explore a different aspect of the Magnificat and suggest the significance of Mary's Words for us today!
